This is wonderful concert
7:30pm
Esparanade recital studio
Tabla:Bhushan Parchure
Mridangam-J.Vaidhyanathan
I became fun of J.Vaidhyanathan. I think I have seen him several times in Chennai as he is popular accompanist but I didn't appreciate it until yesterday.
He can lead and creates dynamic in the music. He also omits the basic rhythm to make us hear the non existing sound for the rhythmic enhancement experience.
With the confidence of J.Vaidhyanathan, Lalgudi GJR Krishna became better and better towards the end. His solo was wonderful and intense. It sounded like he takes time to be in the space but it was worth waiting and be in the same space with that solos.
Sriram Parasuram sounds like more innovative and curious musician but he made me wonder where he is from overtime he solos. He looks like south indian and plays carnatic as it is his roots.
his wikipedia doesn't mention where he is from!!
His Hindustani violin doesn't really have the beautiful melody line like I hear from my guru and other concert musicians. Sorry..
And he was doing bad in hindustani because of not a standard level of tabla player. Bhutan Parchure needs to be musician and not just a tabla player that providing rhythm.
No need to mention the mess when both percussion players played carnatic music together. I think J.Vaidhyanathan didn't like that he flies all the way and experience the elementary carnatic tutorials on the stage!
Overall I believe concert organiser needs to organise standard classical concert with certain standard instead of trying anything new..
This concert was the end of my Indian classic music series over 5 concerts in 1 month. I had good time and also irritated by some hindustani vocals..
Thank you for he experience SIFAS for annual effort to put this together.
