The editor cut Zakir Hussan's solo(!)
It is amazing that Zakir Hussain always make it with the both soloists.
My favourite musician Shashank plays with Zakir Hussain and my new faouvarite Rakesh Chaurasia!

After a good concert, it is better to not to meet people so you don't have to talk about it.. Tabla: Talwalkar Satyajit Suresh Harmonium: Deochake Tanmay Abhay Rakesh Chaurasia made the tabla player sweat. I think in this video, he is little overwhelmed by Zakir Hussain. In this video Vijay Ghate on Tabla.. Rakesh Chaurasia is a nephew of Hariprasad Chaurasia. He played Carnatic electronic Chitraveena Veena is normally like this His electric veena was like this With the guitar amp behind which he constantly adjust the volume and the bass.
If I am in India during the music festival in December, I would not go to this concert because it is new instrument. I would also not go to Srinivas's Mandolin for same reason. Yesterday's concert was accompanied by Violin: Akkarai S Subhalakshmi Mridangam: Mannargudi Easwaran Ghatam: Mahesh Parameswaran Excellent accompanists. Ankara had beautiful melody and Mannargudi's rhythm was so accurate. Ghatam was maybe disciple of Mridamgam and his first concert abroad. As a Carnatic music concert, It was stable and intellectually stimulating. But N Ravikiran had few technics that only electronic instrument can do. And he does it to wow the audience just like a rock guitarist makes amazing solo to wow the audience. But Carnatic music is not rock concert and you maybe want to wow the audience with the mathematical improvisation and the conversation with the accompanies instead of the new technic that maybe earned from instrument. I think Carnatic music is like you can choose any instrument but need to follow the standard of the carnatic structure. To me, the rock solo element make you not want to go back to hear this concert again because you want to hear good Carnatic music and not following the star. So I learnt that less ego makes better Carnatic music. That's why we find old musician after 70 years old making good music. (but they tend to play less and let their child play 70% of the music like TN Krishna). |
